Step-by-step setup
- Create a new wallet — Choose Set up as new device if your Ledger is new. Carefully note your recovery phrase; this is the only backup of your keys.
- Verify your recovery phrase — Ledger Live will prompt verification. Confirm words in the exact order shown during setup.
- Install apps for your coins — Use the Manager inside Ledger Live to install coin-specific apps (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.).
- Add accounts — Once apps are installed, add the corresponding accounts in Ledger Live to see balances and transact.
Security tip: Never share your 24-word recovery phrase. Ledger staff will never ask for it. Store it offline, ideally on a non-digital medium like specialized steel recovery plates for protection against fire, water, and time.
Core concepts & vocabulary (new words)
Below are short definitions and fresh words to enrich a long-form guide. Use them as headings, glossary entries, or to expand paragraphs.
Seed-resilience: practices and materials (steel plates, multilayer storage) that increase the long-term survivability of your recovery seed against environmental hazards and time decay.
Firmware-hardening: a series of processes, including secure updates and signature verification, to keep your device resistant to tampering.
Account-anchoring: linking on-chain accounts to off-chain tracking and documentation to simplify auditing and future recoveries.
Troubleshooting & best practices
- If Ledger Live fails to detect your device: try a different USB port/cable, disable browser-based wallet extensions, and restart the app.
- Firmware update failures: ensure a stable internet connection, and follow on-screen guidance. If uncertain, consult official Ledger documentation.
- Phishing awareness: always verify the URL (ledger.com/start) and update bookmarks. Avoid downloading Ledger Live from third-party sources.
Design & visual presentation
This template mixes gradients, glass cards, and accent swatches to create a presentation-style document. Use the color variables at the top to experiment with palettes. Each section is intentionally short so the page reads well in slides or printed speaker notes.
Expand to long-form (automatic generator)
Because a single page may need 19,000 words, the "Generate" control below will create more content automatically in the browser. The generator uses human-friendly sentence fragments and varied connectors to reduce repetition while staying coherent.
Note: Large generation runs happen client-side; use the 1,000-word button to preview before expanding fully.
